My oldest child has ADHD really bad and even though he's on medication he still has a difficult time sitting still and focusing on his homework but I found that a stress ball (a soft squeezable ball) helps quite a bit. While he working out a problem he squeezes the ball in his hand. He still gets agitated but not quite so much and we get more acomplished in a shorter amount of time.

My son sits on a large exercise ball while he does his homework. He bounces on it while he's thinking of an answer and when he writes he needs to maintain control of the ball to keep it still. Without the ball he would be climbing on his chair, rolling on the floor or taking off out of the room. It used to be very frustrating trying to keep him at the table. Now he enjoys it and thinks it's a fun way to do homework.
